Uruguayan referee Liber Prudente has yet another notch on his bedpost as he was sent packing on Tuesday he worked the Brazil-Argentina match and was asinine when he called the Argentine defender Meza offside when the replay obviously showed the opposite. Meza had absolutely nothing to do with the play.

His attitude and lack of respect towards players and coaches has not helped him in recent years. Remember, he was that infamous referee that declared the Nacional-Villa Español match a forfeit by the part of the El Bolso.

Uruguayan side Peñarol´s return to the Copa Libertadores lasted just 48 minutes as Independiente Medellín pummeled el Carbonero 4-0 at the Atanasio Girardot in the city of Medellín.

Jackson Martínez showed no mercy to Julio Ribas as he tore apart the aurinegro defense in the air and on the ground. In a span of four minutes El Poderoso had a two-lead courtesy of Jackson. Iván Corredor made it 3-0 in the 34th minute and then Martínez would assure himself of a hat-trick in the second half.

Peñarol was competitive at including some plays that came close to getting past Paraguayan international Aldo Bobadilla, but it was not to be. Peñarol lacked physical intensity as well as the tactical ideas that were needed on the pitch in order to come out of the game with any type of favorable result. The five-time Libertadores champs are facing a grim reality as they will have to win by four or more goals in order to stay alive.

The winner of the tie will end up in Group 4 of the Santander Libertadores along with Uruguayan side Defensor Sporting, reigning Colombian champs América, and three-time Libertadores champs São Paulo.

Universo Futbol reports that former Colombian international Carlos Fernando Navarro Montoya will be presented on Wednesday as Tacuarembó’s newest reinforcement in goal. Navarro Montoya, 43, has not played in close to over a year after tearing his ACL while playing with Olimpo.

The former Boca Juniors confirmed through his father that he would accept a previous offer by the Uruguayan side to return to the game after being released by Atlético Luján.

Navarro Montoya will mostly likely play in his 25th season as a professional goalkeeper and all signs point towards him overtaking former River Plate keeper Braian Rodríguez who played in a friendly match this weekend against Lavalleja.

Miguel Ángel Lotina has given complete closure to the issue as the Uruguayan international has aparently been called back to action by the Depor coach. A year after Gustavo Munúa was involved in a scandal along with teammate Dudu Aouate, things look like they are back on track.

Munúa was involved in a fist fight which left Aouate with scars on his face. The conflict occurred after Munúa took the Israeli international´s starting job due to poor performance. Aouate pointed out the fact that he refused to lose his starting job to Munúa, thus becoming the former bolso´s biggest critic. Aouate suffered a contusion as well as eight stitches to his left eye; but his teammate was left with charges as well as the possibility of going to jail for six months. Instead he was able to avoid prison time after he paid a € 3,650 fine to the Municipality of Betnazos. Aouate dsince then moved to Mallorca where he is playing behind Argentine international Germán Lux.

Lotina must have a great deal of faith in the Uruguayan, or might want to give last week´s starter (Daniel Aranzubía) a rest after receiving the pummeling he did against Barcelona. There is talk in most of the blogs and media that cover the Galicians that Munúa might start against none other than Real Madrid at the Bernabéu this coming weekend.

The pressure became too great at the beginning of the new season that he had to step away. It didn’t help that they lost to Nacional in the opening round of the Copa Bimbo. This was seen as a long time coming especially since their last loss to their eternal rivals left them out of the running for the title although there still is not champion officially in Uruguay.

Saralegui gave his unconditional resignation and it was accepted by the club’s administrative board. The board in turn quickly acted and decided to hire Julio Ribas. Julio Ribas is among one of the most successful Uruguayan coaches in recent years. He comes back to Uruguay after coaching the Omani national team in 2008. He was among one of the most successful coaches in the past 25 years for Peñarol leading them to a domestic title. One of his biggest accomplishemnts was leading Bella Vista to their only Liguilla conquest back in 1998-99.

In his second stint as with Peñarol, Saralegui was the most successful coach in the club’s recent history. He led the club to their first title in five years by winning the Clausura 2008. Saralegui’s 71% success rate (22 wins, 7 draws, 5 losses) was among the best in team history. He also had relative success against Nacional beating them in the 2008 Clausura as well as in Liguilla.

It has been a while since Real Sociedad fans have been excited over the signing of a player. Sebastián Abreu is looked at as the player that will get the struggling offense to get back on track.

“It is a great challenge to help Real (Sociedad) get back to first division,” Abreu said after he was presented to the public over at Zubieta over in the Basque city of San Sebastián. “Part of it has to do with the fact that Real Sociedad is the eighth biggest club in Spain and it is our obligation to earn promotion before its centennial season.”

Abreu signed a six-month contract with a one-year option in the event that the club earns promotion. He must also obtain his freedom from Argentine side River Plate in order to get that extra year. That seems easier said than done after he walked away from the club prior to stepping on the bus on the way to pre-season training. This move was not very popular at River Plate as they had paid a significant amount of money to bring him back to Argentina after a disastrous experience at Israeli side Beitar Jerusalem.

Sociedad are currently in seventh place with 31 points, but they are just three points away from league leaders Xerez.
