Abreu Returns To River
The operation was done just in time as he will take part in Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana match against Defensor Sporting. The Uruguayan international was able to separate himself from Beitar Jerusalem, but he will see sporadic action as he will be River Plate’s adquisition for cup play only.
Even though things were not official, Abreu trained with River Plate as the club decided to shift their focus on the international tournament as compared to the domestic after poor performances have seen them drop down all the way to 17th place in the Apertura standings- ten points behind leaders San Lorenzo.
For Diego Simeone, to have Abreu could once again mean that he could once again have one of the main pieces that helped him with the Apertura and he could help spark them to the Copa Sudamericana finals.
