Lugano And His Works For Children

After all of the negative news that Uruguayan football got in the tail end of 2008, it is quite refreshing to hear that some players are doing things that give hope. It is great to see that some athletes take on a greater responsibility with their fame and their money. For player like Diego Lugano it means making a difference simply because he can. The Fenerbahcce defender is one of the toughest men in game. A combination of intimidation, class, and heart that exemplifies the classic Garra Charrúa all over the world. There are few players in the world that can beat him individually or in the air, making him a valued asset to both club and country. Now his greatest attribute must be not be overlooked- his desire to help.
The former Sao Paulo defender during his vacation established plans to build a community center that will help out 60 children and their families from one of the most dangerous areas of Canelones. In a meeting that the organizing team (led my Lugano) had with the local authorities, they offered a formal plan that would lead to the construction of this center in an empty lot. In an interview with Foroceleste the Uruguayan international mentioned that his project began in an effort to work with “what is most fundamental in society-family.”
The “La Tota” project is already in the beginning stages as they have the manpower and logistics in place that will keep this type of foundation in place for the betterment of the community. Lugano was able to obtain various local and national groups that will be using Lugano’s image in order to fund this project. “I have lots of hope for this project. I cannot wait until it is completed,” says the Charrúa captain.
