New Siena Player Richard Porta

Former River Plate midfielder Richard Porta was presented early Wednesday by Italian side Siena. The versatile Uruguayan will now try to help Mario Beretta and his bianconeri assert themselves on the attacking front as he will bring some scoring punch to a team that scored only 16 so far this Serie A season. Porta scored 19 goals in this past Uruguayan Apertura, ending up tied for the top spot alongside Danubio’s Christian Stuani.

Asked in his what to expect from him he said confidently that he would like to emulate “Ronaldo and (former Manchester United idol) Eric Cantona”. He mentioned that he was confident to play “in the middle or at the point” because that is where his game is “strongest”.

Porta will also have an ideal stage where he can make an impression for both Australian coach Dick Advocaat and Oscar Washington Tabárez. He did announce that he would be making a decision regarding his international play future by the beginning of February. Porta was born in Fairfield, Australia but resided in Uruguay since he turned one. He does not speak English but he previously mentioned in an interview that he would be willing to play for the Socceroos.
