Saralegui Leads Peñarol- Again
With the incorporation of players like Ruben Olivera, Fabián Estoyanoff, Darío Rodríguez, and Carlos Bueno it was obvious that the Peñarol brass was going to have a short leash on the coach that they planned to have on the bench leading their troops. That leash was only four weeks long. So two days after the Uruguayan giants sacked Gustavo Matosas, they found yet another replacement from the scrapheap of the club’s former coaches. Mario Saralegui returns to the Peñarol bench after being there only two years ago. He comes in to try to turn around a situation that the club saw as inconceivable after the team’s performances in the past Apertura and in the early weeks of the Clausura.
Saralegui coached Peñarol for nine matches in the 2005-2006 year and his contract was not renewed after earning 12 points out of a possible 27. Peñarol is five points behind Nacional and are looking to win their first title in five years.
