Uruguay

Chance for a Heroic Farewell

Luis Suarez, the hero of the Uruguayan people and at the same time the Uruguayan hero of the XIX FIFA World Cup will have the chance to return to the starting lineup. La Celeste will fight for 3rd place, and if it happens, it would be a justified prize for a wonderful tournament by Tabarez’s team.

Octopuss Paul may have other plans but I see La Celeste as a clear favorite given that the Panzers don’t see the 3rd place as meaningful whereas Uruguayans will always play with heart, passion and dedication no matter what the stakes are.

Yes, the cup will be taken home by Euros, but Uruguayans especially, and South Americans in general have notting to feel bad about in this cup. It was truly awesome to witness all 5 South American nations advance from the group stage. Then Chile was given tough cookies by having to face Brazil, which has dominated the Chileans strongly in recent times. Then it was Brazil itself, and Argentina, our reginon’s eternal giants, who had to take hard knocks on the chin and bow out. But those two have had recovered from worse throughout history and no doubt will do so once more when the time comes.

La albirroja pretty much mirrored La celeste with all the fighting spirit and dedication they put in their games and it took the undisputed best team in the world playing at the top of its game to send them home. Bravo Paraguay, and you even gave us Larissa Riquelme to top it all!

And then was La Celeste, what more can I say? What a perennial source of pride and inspiration. Teams like Uruguay are what make this sport worth watching for. Uruguayans have made football worth loving again. South American style football, that is. Down here we play with heart, with talent and to our last breath. What a great cup to be South American. We will acknowledge, congratulate and recognize whoever wins it all on Sunday. But no one will be able to take this joy away from us. No one.

South American Pride. Always.
Luis Suarez, Forever Hero.

i'm hoping that uruguay can win next copa america.
i'm hoping that uruguay can find a genuine playmaker.
forlan is a true warrior but he's not a playmaker.

  • ByeCheaters

LOL and the curse follows Uruguay. Maybe the boos affected Suarez?

A DE header to win the game … where was Suarez?

Uruguay should celebrate Forlan not Suarez… Forlan carried the team on his back Suarez with just dirty play lol.

    ROTFLOL.

  • ByeCheaters

Also Lahm, Podolski, Klose and Neuer all out for Germany :| team B GER beats team A URU …

  • Soy Celeste

    Rotflol,

Only a sore loser would waste their time talking bad about others. Thats your problem, mate. Uruguay's Achievements throught footballing history, make your trivial, nasty, and petty comment as insignificant as you are. LOL that!
PS Uruguay have 4 Stars on their Jersey, for FIFA recognition of 4 times world champion. And if the FIFA recognised the Champeon of Champeons cup in 1980 there would be 5 Stars on La Celeste. LOL your heart out petty Rotflol

  • ByeCheaters

The Virgin Mary and Jesus himself on your side for “the hand of devil” condoned by both player and coach?

Great for the stars — earned before many nations now very strong in Football were even born LOL… (rah rah) But keep bragging about things from before the 1950s.

Forlan is amazing, but Suarez words and Taberez idiocy spoiled the enjoyment of the squad.

Kind of interesting to see Germany with 1/3 of their team on the bench, unconcerned with the match, still send Uruguay to defeat.

Well, enjoy the best result for Uruguay of your lifetime :) I'm betting without Forlan (who really is amazing) you don't even qualify.

It was another good match. Congrats team Uruguay

  • I hate Suarez

No place in the final and no 3rd place – awesome. Btw – do not claim to know what all Uruguay people are thinking by claiming that Sewer-rez is a hero to the Uruguayan people – your views are not representative of the country as a whole.

  • Ashnee

Uruguay in fourth place for the tournament is more than they deserved or achieved. I am glad that Germany beat them. For the sake of dignity and respect to your country they need to learn to play with honour. Admittedly there is much talent in your country. But any chance of being considered heroes is COMPLETELY nullified by the disgusting cheating on the field.

I would like to salute the Uruguayan World Cup Team for its hard work and classy attitude throughout the World Cup. The people of Uruguay should be proud of its team and the team's conduct.

I dont understand why Suarez has to be blamed for any cheating.
Will it be still the same if the penalty would be converted.
Is it his mistake that Gyan missed the penalty and then 2 of Ghana players fluffed the penalty shoots.

He put his hand , got a red card and Ghana got a penalty , if for any other clinical team the game would be won , but Gyan fluffed his golden chance… so where is the cheating.

  • Arturikomboy

poor suarez, he is condemned for the rest of his playing career.
it also doesn't help to have a name that is easy to pronunciate and to be spelled.

simply an enormous dilemma when you stepped in the shoes of suarez in the ghana match.
    i'd rather not judge.

but i guess uruguays have to keep playing at the level when they play germany. systematic and all-out. not scrambling like when they played south korea, ghana and netherlands (well you're short of main players when facing netherlands.. so it's excused)

So are you saying for example, that if someone commits a crime and gets caught, convicted and jailed, he/she is no longer a criminal because they got caught? Likewise, if I cheat in a test and get caught and reprimanded, then I am no longer a cheater because I was caught? Doesn't make any sense. Whether or not Ghana missed the penalty, Suarez still lifted his hand and hit the ball with them – which is illegal. That makes him a cheater!

  • Forlan is my hero

    Anyone seen this? Sooooo epic:

I believe the use of the word “hero” is a little inflationary here. Heroes win World Cups. Or at least finish as runner-ups. They're not finishing fourth.

No you goose, what Watch_10 is saying is that no-one would give a hoot if it was a one-on-one situation between a striker and the goalkeeper – where the keeper commits a foul, deliberately, with the clear intent to avoid a goal! In other words – a Professional Foul! Naturally, your small narrow mind accepts this form of “Cheating” because it happens on a regular basis somewhere in the world every weekend.

Luis Suarez did the crime & paid the fine! Nothing more nothing less. Hopefully now you can get on with your miserable life….

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

Bense235 – I'm Argentino and i hate Germany more than anything else in this world and our cousins from Uruguay should be proud of how they performed in the 2010 WC so don't come here trying to talk garbage. You're team lost as well so go on your own blog and cry to the rest of your German brothers! aleman bostero!!! jaja

Uruguayos i just wanted to say thanks for the good matches you guys played and all of us from Argentina were supporting you until the end after we got eliminated! You should be proud VERY PROUD of what you accomplished. AGUANTE!!!

    Best wishes to Uruguay!

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

I hate suarez – You're as stupid as you profile name is! Soy Argentino pero yo te puedo decir que lo que hizo Suarez fue lo correcto y pago el precio con la tarjeta roja y el penal para Ghana! Ghana had their chance to win without trying to get by any defence all Gyan had to do was kick the ball into the net “EASY” but he didn't so he gave up that free goal by himself! GET A LIFE U IDIOT AND REALIZE THIS WAS NOT CHEATING IT WAS PART OF THE GAME AND RULES AND REGULATIONS WERE APPLIED ACCORDINGLY! MOVE ON NOW!
